During Miami Art Week 2025, as Art Basel got underway, we handed the front of PARI PARI Handroll Bar to Gabriela Noëlle.

Her installation, Catch of the Day, took over the windows of our Wynwood handroll bar with oversized PARI PARI lettering, toothy figures, flowers, blue panels and the loose, hand-drawn details that run through her work. Behind the glass, the restaurant was still fully visible: the counter, the seats, the staff, the pace of service. The artwork did not close the room off. It changed the way the room met the street.

That was important to us. Pari Pari is built around the counter. Handrolls are made in front of you, guests sit close to the action, and the window is part of the experience long before anyone reaches the door. Gabriela worked with that openness. Her characters moved across the glass while the restaurant kept moving behind them.

Gabriela is a Cuban-American artist whose practice includes playable art, interactive objects, sculpture, lucite, mixed media and textiles. Her work has a clear visual language: character-led, slightly strange, and made to be encountered up close. For Pari Pari, that language landed in a new setting. Glass became the surface, the restaurant became the backdrop, and Catch of the Day became a title with just enough connection to the menu to make you pause.

There is no literal sushi illustration here. The phrase is simply folded into Gabriela’s world, where an odd little creature can sit next to a flower, a window reflection, and a restaurant name without needing to explain itself.

Pari Pari is a place for handrolls first. It is also part of Wynwood, where what happens on the street matters. Supporting local artists gives us a way to participate in the neighborhood beyond the menu. With Catch of the Day, we put that support where everyone could see it: right on our front windows.
